Asserting that the incidence of dengue in the State was gradually declining, Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami on Thursday, however, called for the cooperation of the people to bring the disease under control fully.
“The government continues to remain vigilant and utmost priority has been given to check the spread of the disease and treat those affected. We have deputed Secretary-level officers to districts monitor measures against dengue. If we are to control the disease fully, we need people’s cooperation. With people’s support we will check the disease,” he said at the MGR centenary celebrations here.
‘Report symptoms’
Persons with fever should immediately approach government hospitals for treatment and undergo blood test to identify the fever. Since the dengue-causing mosquito breeds in fresh water, people need to keep storage containers closed and should fully cooperate with the government efforts, he said.
Flaying DMK working president M.K.Stalin for dubbing the AIADMK regime ‘dengue government,’ Mr.Palaniswami charged that the Opposition leader was only capable of making such criticisms but could not come up with constructive suggestions.
Mr.Palaniswami also criticised Mr.Stalin for calling the ruling dispensation a ‘horse-trading government.’ “I do not know to whom he is referring. You all know the court verdict is impending. Then the people will come to know under whose regime there was horse-trading,” he said.
The Chief Minister also rejected the criticisms of Opposition parties that no development work had taken place under the present government. Reeling out statistics on the projects executed in Tiruchi, Mr.Palaniswami said the government was committed to fulfilling the needs of the people.
“The AIADMK is a party of the people and for the people. The party remains a fortress due to the unity of the party cadre.
We should remain united and work for the people ignoring the Opposition criticisms,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam said none could drive a wedge between the people and the AIADMK government and conspiracies launched by some had proved to be pipe dreams.
Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha M.Thambi Durai said no party or force could bring down the present government.
Assembly Speaker P.Dhanapal eulogised party founder M.G. Ramachandran and recalled his association with Tiruchi, especially the launch of the noon-meal scheme by the late Chief Minister in Kattur Pappakurichi and his plans of making Tiruchi the second capital of the State.
