Members of Parliament have demanded the Railways to operate special train service on August 2 for the benefit of passengers.

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and MP from Karur Constituency M. Thambi Durai along with P.R. Sundaram (Namakkal Constituency) submitted a letter to the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, stating that Aadi Perukku that falls on August 3 is an important festival for the Tamil people, who take a dip in River Cauvery at Mohanur and Karur.

Currently, passenger train numbers 56105 and 56107 run between Salem and Karur while train numbers 56106 and 56108 services run between Karur and Salem on all days, except Sundays.

Since, the festival falls on Monday, movement of pilgrims will be more on August 2, Sunday. Hence, they urged the Railways to run special train service on Sunday.

They also said that the train service had received good patronage and positive response from the public at large. But, only two services were operated in both the direction every day.
