fter the Nadigar Sangam held its elections, now it is the turn of the Television Artistes Association. They will be holding elections on December 13.

While new office-bearers were elected formally, the members say that difference of opinion on how to tackle issues of unemployment led to disenchantment within the association. The present office bearers quit their posts making the conduct of elections inevitable.

Yesteryear actor Nalini, who is the current president of TV artistes association, said that she had stepped down on her own volition. “I was busy for 25 days a month shooting and I wasn’t able to concentrate on the affairs of the association. So I decided to step down,” she said.

However, Rajkanth, who has been a part of a number of popular serials such as Metti Oli and Chellamey, said that there were a few key issues that needed speedy resolution but wasn't addressed properly. “The television channels broadcasting dubbed Hindi serials take away our livelihood. We have lost jobs. Secondly, there is this issue of non-members acting in serials. These two issues need to be urgently attended to and resolved,” he said.

The opposition to the telecast of dubbed Hindi-serials has been unanimous and has brought unlikely groups - TV artistes association and small screen producers -together. “The telecast of dubbed content on television needs to stop because it is putting a lot of people out of work. All the unions will participate in raising awareness in this regard. We are already fighting a tough situation,” said actor and producer, Radhikaa Sarath Kumar.
