Though heavy rain has brought cheer to the city residents, stagnation of water on service road along the Salem – Bangalore National Highway pose threat to road users.
The stretch from Mamangam to Kuranguchavadi has service roads that are mostly used by two-wheelers to reach their villages. But due to dumping of debris and presence of grass along the service roads, rain water stagnates on the road and vehicle users find it difficult to cross it. They said that while crossing the water, the vehicle tyres got skidded resulting in accidents. “The water should be drained and not allowed to stagnate on road”, they added. Shopkeepers in Mamangam said that stagnation of water on roads in the past four days has forced pedestrians to walk on national highway and thus being hit by speeding vehicles. “Since it is vacation time, movement of vehicles are also high in these roads”, they added.
Also, the pits in service roads were left unattended making it a stagnation point for water.
