P. Suriya was allegedly beaten to death by his classmates

Two days after the death of P. Suriya, a Class IV boy, allegedly due to injuries sustained after his classmates beat him up, his parents received the body at Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital. Suriya of Panchayat Union Middle School in Kozhikalnatham was allegedly beaten up by two of his classmates on February 29.

He was admitted to Salem GH on March 4, and died the next day. A post-mortem examination was conducted on March 6.

His parents initially refused to receive the body, demanding action against teachers. Officials met them on Monday.Later, they accepted a cheque of Rs. 2.81 lakh from Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department. – Staff Reporter
