RTO to accept old Rs. 500 note till December 15

Regional Transport Officer, The Nilgiris, D. Venkatraman, said that the Regional Transport Office here will accept Rs. 500 which was demonetised recently till December 15.

Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Office here seized 25 vehicles who had not paid vehicle tax, driving without permits and carrying loads higher than permitted level.

The infringements were found during checks in Ooty, Kotagiri and Kattabettu since Tuesday, Mr. Venkatraman said.

During the checks, the RTO office had also imposed fines on the owners amounting to Rs. 1.75 lakhs.

In 2016, the department had imposed fines amounting to a total of Rs. 25 crore, Mr. Venkatraman said.

Speed governors have also been installed on over 500 vehicles.
