Reverse osmosis plants to treat and provide potable drinking water to residents were inaugurated at Cholavidyapuram and Uthamacholapuram in the district on Monday. Fisheries Minister K.A.Jayapal, who inaugurated the plants, said the State government was taking various steps to meet the drinking water requirements of the people, especially in the coastal areas.

Although a water treatment plant has already been set up at Choladvidyapuram, an additional reverses osmosis plant has been established here in deference to popular demand. Collector S.Palanisamy said drinking water treatment plants have been set up at 43 coastal villages in the district already.
