Police who are on duty prevented a group of retired police personnel and others attempted to stage demonstration urging the State government to meet their demands in front of State Secretariat- cum- Assembly which is in session
Expressing unhappiness over the system, a few unknown among the serving police personnel pasted posters and circulated posts through social media and mobile messaging network for the last weeks inviting the families of police personnel to come in large numbers to stage protest and present their demands to the Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami on this day. Expecting a revolt among the police personnel, top police officers made an elaborate security arrangements to prevent any attempt. Despite the arrangements are in place, a group of retired police personnel gathered in front of entry gate of Secretariat- cum- Assembly on Thursday and indulged in shouting slogans which created a flutter among persons who gathered there. Immediately police personnel who were on duty removed them from the spot. Joint Commissioner of Police R.Sudhakar held talks with them and held an enquiry with three women police constables who allegedly participated in the protest.
The protestors also demanded the implementation of night-hour duty to the serving police personnel and weekly holidays which other government employees were entitled to. They also said that vacancies should be filled and orderly system be abolished, besides permission for an association for their welfare.
