Heavy rain that lashed parts of Erode district on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a boy in Gobichettipalayam taluk. According to official sources Belliraj (19) died on the spot at Kalingayam when his house collapsed.Deaths of two heads of cattle were also reported at Anthiyur and Perundurai due to the rain.
Gobichettipalayam recorded 53 mm rainfall during the course of the day. Erode received 40 mm rainfall, Perundurai 23 mm, Bhavani 17 mm and Thalavadi recorded 5 mm rainfall. The rain to the accompaniment of breeze turned the weather nippy for most part of the day. The rain lasted for about two hours and thereafter there was a steady drizzle for the rest of the day.
