Railway employees belonging to various trade unions staged a demonstration at the Erode Junction on Monday assailing the Centre’s move to privatise railways, security, and postal sectors.

The other demands they raised included implementation of the seventh pay commission recommendations with effect from January 1, 2014; payment as interim relief an amount equivalent to 25 per cent of basic pay merged with 100 per cent Dearness Allowance; abolition of the new pension scheme and replacing it with pension linked to social security. The protestors later submitted a petition to the district administration.
