While schools, by and large, adhere to the Transport Department's strict instructions to schools not to allow students to come in two-wheelers, parents have not been forthcoming in reining in their wards, officials have observed. In case, students come in two-wheelers, the schools are required to make sure that they possess driving licence and wear helmet. Instances of school students going on motorcycles is not uncommon in the city, and the worrisome aspect is speeding and triple-riding.

While it is possible to control and keep a tab on students riding two-wheelers to schools, there is much difficulty in preventing them from using the vehicles to go to tuitions, a senior official of Transport Department said.

The traffic police has, in the past, cracked its whip on the parents of erring underage two-wheeler riders. However, the parents pay the fines but fail to rein in their children.

According to a principal of a city-based school, checks must be intensified in the vicinity of education institutions at periodic intervals to instil fear in the minds of the students and parents.
