District Collector V. Sampath directed re-assessment for fixing fresh compensation for agriculture lands that fall on the path of the high-tension power lines.

The officials of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forest Department would be involved in the re-assessment work, he said, during the farmers’ grievances redress meeting here on Friday.

The Collector’s response was following a spate of complaints made by a group of farmers of Vazhappadi and Pethanayakkanpalayam blocks that the Power Grid Corporation has not come forward to provide adequate compensation to the farmers, despite repeated pleas. They also complained that the Corporation was threatening the farmers using police force. It was Sriram of Pethanayakkanpalayam who raised the issue.

He said that the Corporation was not providing adequate compensation despite court ruling.

Mr. Sampath directed joint re-assessment by the Agriculture, Horticulture and Forest Departments to fix fresh compensation.
