Pattali Makkali Katchi (PMK) chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday promised to create special agro economic zones in each district to impart value addition to agricultural produce pertaining to the region thereby boosting the income of farmers, if the party was voted to power.

“Cluster cooperative centres will be encouraged to synergise skills of the youth and farmers to maximise the benefits for both if we come to power,” he said during an interface with an invited group of social leaders drawn from various walks of life from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts.

Dr. Anbumani said ego clash between leaders of the DMK and the AIADMK had left the State under-developed. The two parties avoided pursuing each other’s schemes because of which people suffered. “There must be a cultural change in the political climate as due to lack of unity the State has suffered a lot,” he said.

Pointing out that liquor trade and corruption had adversely impacted all families in the State, Dr. Anbumani flayed the DMK and the AIADMK saying that change or development would not come the State’s way if the two parties were to rule for another 50 years. Stating that this was the time for action, the PMK leader said that scientific approach based administrative reforms with a thrust on decentralised power structure would mark governance in Tamil Nadu if his party formed the government. He reiterated that there would be no freebies in a PMK dispensation and ruled out waiver of all farm loans.

“In granting freebies, the DMK and the AIADMK have made you people loose your self-respect and dignity. We will retrieve them for you,” he said.

On the contentious issue of natural gas exploitation in the Cauvery delta region, Dr. Anbumani said the PMK would not permit even a single well for any sort of methane or natural gas or shale gas exploration in the delta region.
