Having gone unchecked for some time now, video piracy menace in this hill station caught the attention of the police on Friday.

It followed a complaint by fans of actor Vijay that pirated compact discs of his latest film ‘Thalaivaa’ which is yet to be released, were being sold in some of the video shops.

Seized

The police raided a couple of shops and seized compact discs of a few new films. However they could not find any compact discs of ‘Thalaivaa’, according to the Deputy Superintendent of Police G.S.Anita.

Speaking to The Hindu , she said that a video shop owner Chandran was arrested for unauthorized sale of compact discs of new films.

She added that the raids would continue.

Welcoming the police action, observers said that since Ooty was a popular holiday spot and the flow of tourists was round the year, the demand for film compact discs, especially those of new releases, was high.

They hoped that there would not be any let up in the vigil.
