Paswan meets Chidambaram, seeks probe by sitting judge

Former Union Minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Tuesday called on Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and demanded a judicial inquiry into the police action against Dalits in Parmakudi on September 11.

In his memorandum, Mr. Paswan demanded that an enquiry be conducted by a sitting judge of the High Court and all guilty police personnel should be placed under suspension and booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

He wanted the government to pay a compensation of Rs.20 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs.5 lakh to the injured besides police protection for Dalit leaders facing threats.
