Suspecting foul play in the death of a 20-year-old youth, parents refused to receive the body at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital here on Monday.

According to police, S. Jeykumar of Muthampatti in Vazhapadi, a third year diploma student, told his parents that he consumed poison.

He was taken to the Government Hospital in Vazhapadi and later taken to Salem GH, but he died on the way. A case under 174 (suspicious death) of CrPC was registered and post-mortem examination was done on Sunday. But his parents refused to receive the body alleging foul play.

Parents said that he left home on Saturday to meet a girl at a temple. But they alleged that her parents and relatives beat him and forced him to consume poison.

They also alleged that a PMK functionary dropped him at home and threatened of consequences if he continues to talk with the girl. They demanded registering case against her parents and relatives. The police pacified them and said that based on the post-mortem report they would alter the sections and initiate action against the persons concerned. Later, they received the body.
