Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday accused opposition parties of overblowing the power outages issues that prevailed for a day or two due to some snag in certain units and assured people that the shortage would be solved by June.
Addressing an election campaign in support of her party candidate, Gopalakrishnan in Madurai, she said her government had already added 2,500 MW. In addition, it was purchasing 500 MW to overcome the summer demand. Besides long term agreements had been signed to buy 3,300 MW.
But opposition parties made “two days of power cut last week” a major issue, and were making it seem as if the government had not taken any step, she said.
“I am closely monitoring the power situation daily. There is no need to worry about power problem. There will be no power cut in Tamil Nadu after June,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
She lashed out at her arch rival, the DMK, and described its election manifesto as “a lie” with regard to IT exemption for retirement benefit, among others, as it already existed.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said if the AIADMK was given sufficient strength to be part of the central government, IT ceiling would be raised to Rs. 5 lakh.
