Launching a scathing tirade on her Puducherry counterpart N. Rangasamy, whose All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) formed a government on its own after winning the 2011 Assembly elections through a pre-poll agreement with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday said it was nothing but betrayal not only to the AIADMK but also to the people of Puducherry, who voted him to power only on her appeal to vote for the alliance.
Speaking at an election rally to seek vote for M.V. Omalingam in the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency at Uppalam ground here, she said that Mr. Rangasamy should be taught a fitting lesson and his party should be rooted out for betraying the people.
If the AIADMK was inducted in the Cabinet it could have implemented most of the schemes, which were being implemented in Tamil Nadu, in Puducherry also. Moreover, it could have achieved Statehood too, she said. Mr. Rangasamy had never taken steps to secure the release of Indian fishermen, many from the Karaikal region, from Sri Lanka. It was because of her steps, they were released on many occasions, she said.
Turning her heat on Union Minister V. Narayanasamy, who is seeking re-election on behalf of the Congress, she said he was supposed to take forward the agenda of industrial growth and implementing major infrastructural projects. But, he had miserably failed to use his office to improve the industrial climate. Though Puducherry had been reeling under deep financial crisis, he had not taken any steps to secure a waiver of about Rs. 5000 crore of debt burden from the Union Government.
Terming the Congress led UPA government, which was supported by the DMK for nine years, as most corrupt Ms. Jayalalithaa sought votes for AIADMK.
