In an effort to rescue missing children and hand them over to their parents, the district administration has launched ‘Operation Smile’ in the district.

As part of the programme, a special action committee was formed with members from various government departments.

The committee would collect details about orphan children in childrens’ homes, and also identify children found wandering in public places, railway stations, bus stands, market areas and other places. The committee that includes officials from District Child Protection Unit, police department, National Child Labour Project and Childline would conclude their programme on January 31, 2015.

Hence, the public are requested to identify children in the age group of 1 to 18 years in their areas who could be involved in dangerous works, domestic help, begging and other activities.

In order to assist, they should inform the District Collector or the District Child Protection Unit, Childline at 1098, or nearest police station.
