Opening up roads on private campuses of tech parks in Whitefield area for public access was one of the out-of-the-box proposals made to fix the road system in Whitefield at a brainstorming session of urban experts with the Chief Minister on Tuesday.

Urban planners from World Resources Institute (WRI) and V. Ravichandar, member of BBMP restructuring committee, made four presentations to the government and strongly pressed for boosting multi-modal public transport system across the city.

“The road network in the Whitefield area is poor and the missing road links have to be fixed. The tech parks need to go for building security rather than gate security. If the campuses don’t do this, their tenants may move out, as they are faced with several issues now,” Mr. Ravichandar said. The experts also strongly pushed for the comprehensive development of multiple modes of public transport system – Namma Metro, Commuter Rail to Whitefield and Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on Outer Ring Road. They also proposed to increase the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation fleet to 10,000 buses from its present strength of 6,500.

They also proposed to increase the BMTC

fleet to 10,000 buses

strength of 6,500
