He is a two-time Chief Minister and the Minister for Finance and Public Works as well. Yet, O. Panneerselvam’s personal assets are worth only Rs 8.6 lakh, if you take into account his liabilities. His wife, however, has properties worth just over Rs. one crore.

According to the election affidavit filed by Mr. Panneerselvam, the AIADMK candidate for Bodi constituency, he does not own any immovable properties.

He has 16 gm of gold worth Rs.40,000. The value of his total movable properties was Rs. 33.20 lakh. However, his total liabilities are Rs. 25 lakh. His wife, P. Vijayalakshmi, has 200 gm of gold worth Rs. 5 lakh; movable properties worth Rs. 26.32 lakh and 27 acres of agricultural lands and 2,063 sq ft house with their current value at Rs.98 lakh.

In 2011, he had declared that he had movable properties worth Rs.17.3 lakh and his wife Rs.8.36 lakh. He had no immovable properties then also. But his wife had immovable properties was worth Rs. 29.83 lakh. There is no change in the gold they possess in 2011 and 2016.

Electricity Minister and Athoor candidate Natham R. Viswanathan declared the total value of his movable assets to be Rs.37.43 lakh and that of his spouse at Rs. 70.92 lakh. The value of immovable assets was Rs.93 lakh and his wife’s Rs.15 lakh. His total liability was Rs.34.43 lakh and his wife’s was Rs.70.92 lakh. He has 3.49 hectares of agricultural land at Pannaipatti and his wife owns 1.38 hectares of farm land. Cash in his hand was Rs.18,000, his wife has Rs.15,000 and his three dependents have no cash in hand.

He has 105 gm of gold worth Rs.2.25 lakh and his wife has 820 gm of gold worth Rs.18 lakh. He owns only a second hand car. Compared with the 2011 affidavits, both he and his wife’s liabilities have increased manifold while that of the immovable properties have grown in market value.
