The Judicial Magistrate-cum-District Munsiff Court here on Tuesday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA R. Annadurai (Madurai South).

Tiruvadanai Judicial Magistrate K.B. Ilavarasi, who is in-charge of the local court here, ordered the warrant against the MLA and two others for failing to appear before the court in connection with a case registered against them by Rameswaram Temple police for staging a demonstration, violating police orders two years ago.

As the MLA and two other party office-bearers – P. Vadakoria and I. Justin – failed to appear before the court when the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, the Magistrate ordered the warrant and adjourned the case till July 1.

Advocates refused to appear for CPI (M) leaders after two of the party office-bearers had a tiff with two women advocates who had appeared for the husband of a pregnant Dalit woman, for whom they were seeking justice after she was ditched by her husband.

In the absence of advocates, CPI (M) office-bearers M. Karunamurthy and C.R. Senthilvel filed petitions to dispense with the absence of the MLA and the two others, but the Magistrate dismissed the petitions.

After the stand-off between the CPI (M) leaders and the women advocates, Rameswaram Advocates’ Association passed a resolution, calling upon its members not to appear for the CPI (M) men and leaders.
