Hitting out at her political archrival DMK, AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said nobody could destroy her party and described the ruling party in Tamil Nadu as “setting sun“.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said some DMK leaders had been saying that AIADMK would not last after the 2011 Assembly elections. “Let 2011 come, we will see who stays put and who flees,” she said.
“Nobody can destroy AIADMK at any point of time or finish off the party,” she said at the marriage of a party cadre near here.
Describing the DMK as “a setting sun”, in a sarcastic dig at the party’s election symbol “Rising Sun”, the AIADMK chief said days of the DMK were “numbered“.
After coming to power in May 2006 in alliance with Congress, the DMK has won all ten assembly by-elections held in the state thereafter. The DMK-led UPA had also drubbed AIADMK in the May 2009 Lok Sabha polls winning 27 of the 39 seats in the state.
