NIRF ranks CMC third among medical colleges in country

Institution underscores its commitment to quality service

Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, has been ranked third among medical colleges in the country in the ‘India Rankings 2018’ under the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

According to the rankings released recently, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, has secured the top rank followed by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. CMC has been ranked third in the country.

A press release said the framework outlined a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The broad parameters for ranking included ‘teaching, learning and resources,’ ‘research and professional practices,’ ‘graduation outcomes,’ ‘outreach and inclusivity’ and ‘perception.’

Union Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar presented the award to Solomon Sathishkumar, vice principal (under graduation), CMC, during a ceremony held in New Delhi on April 3.

Anna B. Pulimood, principal, said the institution has been doing service to the country. “At CMC, it is a combination of maintaining quality and doing service. Our students stay back in the country and serve in remote areas. They contribute to the healthcare of the poor and those in rural areas,” she said.

Curriculum review

Noting that every year, the institution strives to be better than the previous year, she said, “Currently, we are doing a curriculum review and are looking at how we are achieving goals. We want to improve the curriculum and the outcome. We want to improve the quality of education. We constantly try to improve and aim high.”
