The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department has sent a proposal to provide additional amenities at Tiruvenkadu near Sirkali where a noted temple dedicated to Sri Swetharanyeswarar is located.

The HR and CE has sent a proposal seeking Rs. 90 lakh from the Tourism Department for providing amenities to pilgrims and devotees, an official source told The Hindu on Friday. This temple is closely associated with Lord Budhan (Mercury) and has a separate shrine dedicated to the Lord.

As the temple is located in an interior village of Tiruvenkadu, there is no adequate facility particularly cottages for accommodating the devotees. Hence the HR and CE Department has planned to build a cottage, an overhead tank, and supply treated water.

The Tourism Department had planned to develop the ‘Navagraha chain’ of temples in Thanjavur and Nagapattinam districts.

The official said that there had been a spurt in the number of devotees visiting the temple which has a separate shrine dedicated to Sri Agora Murthi.
