The State government has introduced a chapter each on ‘Human Rights’ and ‘Casteless Society’ for standard VI and VII this year. It has also introduced Cyber Safety for students of all classes from Standard VI, said D. Sabitha, Principal Secretary, Department of School Education here on Thursday.
Speaking at the State Consultative Training of School Management Committee held at the District Institute of Teachers’ Education (DIET), Ms. Sabitha said that the department has taken into consideration UNICEF recommendations on inclusion of Human Rights and other issues in the curriculum. She also urged the School Management Committees to have a sense of belonging, so that they can manage the school activities in a better way. Ms. Sabitha said that the government is giving more impetus to the Right to Education Act and notified the rules and regulations for implementing the RTE in schools during 2011.
The government headed by the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is giving more impetus for school education.
Aiming to improve the standard of education at the school level, the allocation for Education Department was enhanced to Rs. 16,695-crore as against Rs. 14,552-crore for the last financial year.
