Cultural programmes, Bharatanatyam, plays, street shows, and catamaran race formed part of the colourful events organised on the occasion of “Karaikal Carnival” by the Tourism Department and the district administration here on the occasion of the second day of the festival.
The stage was decorated in the form of “Aayi mandapam” — the official logo of the Puducherry government in the backdrop.
The street show depicting the conventional dance was performed by artistes from different parts of the State.
Depicting the forms of rural gods and goddesses, tiger and lions, they marched through the thoroughfares presenting their performance.
Earlier in the morning, a group of youths participated in the catamaran race which was flagged off by E. Vallavan, District Collector.
These cultural programmes aimed at propagating the civilisation of Karaikal and to convert Karaikal into an international tourism centre.
