Justice B.S. Chauhan, Judge of the Supreme Court, has been appointed Chairman of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

The post of chairman has been lying vacant for the last two years after Justice N.P. Singh resigned on health grounds.

Sources in the Public Works Department here said the Union Water Resources Ministry on Tuesday published a notification in the gazette on the appointment of the new chairman.

As the post was vacant since April 2012, the tribunal was unable to take clarification petitions filed by all parties to the Cauvery dispute against the Tribunal's final award, which was delivered in February 2007.
