Income Tax department officials raided the residence of Ananthi, who was found running an illegal scanning facility in Tiruvannamalai to determine sex of the foetus and carry out illegal abortions if the foetus was female.

The illegal centre was raided by health department officials on Tuesday and ultra sonogram equipment, medicines used for abortion, and forceps and gloves suspected to have been used in carrying out abortions were seized. Ananthi was also arrested. Meanwhile, the house of Ananthi located in the same premises in Avulkara Street in Tiruvannamalai was raided by income-tax officials on Wednesday. According to sources, they seized some incriminating evidence. Ananthi is said to have been arrested a few years ago too for allegedly committing identical offences.
