City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan said on Monday that all Inspectors will hear public grievances in their respective police stations on a daily basis.
All Inspectors, both Law and Order and Crime, will be available between 11 a.m to 12.30 p.m and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Explaining people-friendly initiatives, Mr. Viswanathan said that the public perception was that they have to wait long hours to meet the Inspectors.
Complainants are facing hardships whenever they are visiting the police stations. Sometimes, they are able to meet Deputy Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner but not the Inspector, he said.
“All officers in the city have been strictly asked to be available in the stations to hear the public grievances. In cases of emergency, they may not be present. In their absence, SIs will be available,” he said.
According to the new system, the complainants will be received courteously and directed to the officer concerned. The officers should give FIR copy or acknowledgement depending upon the complaint. CCTV units will be installed in all police stations in the city, he said.
Online complaints too will be taken for investigation without any delay, the Commissioner said, emphasising that a monitoring mechanism will also be in place.
