9 urban, 28 rural police stations to get new buildings

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced on Wednesday that nine urban and 28 rural police stations would be housed in new buildings to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 29.24 crore.

Replying to the debate on the demands for grants for the Home, Prohibition and Excise Departments under her charge, she said the police stations were in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Erode, Salem, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Ramanatha puram,Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. Similarly, the T-15 SRMC police station at Ayyappanthangal would get its own building and full infrastructure at a cost of Rs. 1.35 crore.

A total of 34 tenements to house police personnel and their families would come up at Muthubalapuram in Thanjavur district for the benefit of the Orathanadu police station.

The project would cost Rs. 4.86 crore.

Separate buildings for an administrative block, barracks and armoury would be constructed at the Armed Police unit at Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district at a cost of Rs. 8.32 crore, she said. Likewise, for the Madurai city unit of the Armed Police, a new administrative block would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5.43 crore.

For the Armed Police in Krishnagiri district, barracks would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.06 crore to accommodate 200 trainee constables.

The Tiruvarur Armed Police would also get a new administrative complex at a cost of Rs. 3.39 crore, while the Salem unit at Kumarasamipatty would get a new complex costing Rs. 2.79 crore.

Safety gadgets for VVIP visits

Safety gadgets such as Non-linear Junction Detector, Explosive Vapour Detector, Deep Search Mine Detector, X-Ray Baggage Scanner and Multi-Zone Door Frame Metal Detector deployed during VVIP visits would be procured at a cost of Rs. 4.95 crore, Ms. Jayalalithaa said.

The Swift Action Force, part of the Special Task Force, would be armed with 59 types of modern gadgets costing Rs. 2.59 crore. Five mobile control centres would be established at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh. The police would also be provided with new automobiles, including buses, vans, motorbikes, jeeps and ambulances, at a cost of Rs. 6.43 crore.

A new building to house the administrative block of the Government Railway Police, Tiruchi Zone, would come up on an outlay of Rs. 4.23 crore.

For the Fire and Rescue Services, 30 new water tankers would be procured at a cost of Rs. 7.50 crore, Ms. Jayalalithaa said. Seven new fire stations would be established in different parts of the State on an outlay of Rs. 6.30 crore.
