A four-member gang entered the house of M. Subburam (63), a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionary, at Thookkanampakkam near here on Saturday night and took away 28 sovereigns of jewellery, Rs. 18,000 in cash and a cell phone, at knife-point.

Police said that the offenders came in a sports utility vehicle and entered the house on pretext of handing over a wedding invitation.

Once inside, they bolted the door and tied the hands of Mr. Subbarayan using his shirt. Brandishing a knife, they forced his wife Vasanthi to part with the jewellery on her person. They also ransacked a steel almirah and took away the valuables, cash and the cell phone.

The police have booked a case.
