The district Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the functioning of a private school on Thiruvalluvar Day on Friday which the government has declared as a holiday. General secretary R.P. Gopinath said that when the day is observed as Thiruvalluvar Day and also Mattu Pongal celebrations are going on across the State, a government-aided school in Four Roads was found with classes being taken for higher secondary. “We took up the issue with the Collector K. Maharabushanam who assured to look into the issue. When the party members went to the school, the administration declared holiday and students were asked to leave the premises,” they added. – Staff Reporter
