Fake Indian Currency Notes to the tune of Rs.1.43 lakh were seized from a suspect near the Central Railway Station here on Monday.
Following information on the circulation of FICN, Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran directed the Central Crime Branch to form special teams and conduct surprise checks. A team led by Sub-Inspector G. Chandru raided a lodge near Walltax Road and apprehended K. Zakir Hussain (27) of Malda district in West Bengal. The accused was in possession of counterfeit currency, all of Rs.1,000 denomination.
“The notes were of superior quality and looked original. The accused claimed that he had come for treatment to a hospital in Vellore. The money was given to him by a person in West Bengal. The seized cash is being referred to the Reserve Bank of India for further investigation,” Mr. Chandru said.
