Encroachments on temple land to be removed

Officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department are all set to remove encroachments on over 90 acres belonging to the 500-year-old Soleeswarar temple at Mulanur.

Recently, the authorities had removed the encroachments on about 60 acres belonging to the same temple. Assistant Commissioner of HR and CE department S. V. Harshini told The Hindu that the eviction drive on the 90 acre would commence soon with the help of revenue and police officials. “An interesting thing is that the people who had encroached on the temple land have managed to get electricity connection without patta in their names”, an official said.
