June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - SALEM:

The commuters should take utmost care while using the electrical provisions in the coaches in the running trains and also on the railway station premises, said R. K. Kulsreshta, Chief Electrical Engineer, Southern Railway, Chennai.

He was speaking at an electrical safety awareness programme organised by the Electrical branch of the Salem Railway Division in connection with the ongoing Customer Facilitation Fortnight at the Salem Railway Junction here on Sunday.

Mobile phones

Mr. Kulsreshta urged the commuters not to use the mobile phone charging plugs provided in the railway coaches for any other gadget and also not to overload them by using extension boxes. This will lead to failure in the train lighting batteries and ultimately resulting in switching off the fans and lights in the whole train.

Interacts with passengers

He interacted with the passengers of the trains that arrived at the junction then and distributed pamphlets containing various electrical safety slogans.

Cleaning fans

He also inspected the work of cleaning fans and other electrical fitting carried out by the electrical branch staff of Salem Railway Division.
