Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Sunday criticised the way Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary H. Raja had reacted to MDMK leader Vaiko’s comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Mr. Raja had reportedly said that Mr. Vaiko should refrain from criticising the BJP leaders. If not, his security could not be guaranteed.

Mr. Elangovan said such comments were uncalled for and that Mr. Raja should be open to criticism.

The Congress was open to those who wanted to build the party and promote secularism. It would welcome actor Kushboo and any other actor who wanted to work for the party. Mr. Elangovan denied that G.K. Vasan floating a new political party had dented the Congress’ political prospects.

CPI (M) condemns

CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Sunday described as “manifestation of authoritarianism” the remarks of Mr. Raja .“Instead of facing criticism politically, the tone of threatening assumed by Mr. Raja has shown his helplessness and political indecency,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said in a statement.
