Driver gets 17-year jail term for raping, threatening to kill minor

The Mahila Court on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old driver Dastagar of Kottuveerampalayam, near Sathyamangalam, to 17-year imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl in September 2013. The offender had committed the crime on the daughter of an employee of an auto spare-parts shop.

Mahila Court Judge N. Tirunavakarasu sentenced Dastagar to 10 years imprisonment and imposed Rs. 10,000 fine for committing rape and another seven years imprisonment and Rs. 10,000 fine for threatening to kill the minor girl. The culprit has to undergo the terms separately, according to the judgment. After pronouncing the judgment, the judge instructed Sathyamangalam Deputy Superintendednt of Police to arrest and produce the culprit in the court.
