District Registrar’s transfer not linked to Minister’s property attachment’

A controversy broke out here on Wednesday, in the wake of the transfer of Pudukottai Registrar Sasikala to Virudhunagar, a day after the Income Tax Department sent a communication to the Sub Registrar’s office to freeze certain assets of Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar which were provisionally attached on Tuesday. Ms. Sasikala has been transferred to the Audit wing of the District Registrar office at Virudhunagar.

However, official sources said her transfer was routine and it had merely coincided with the IT Department’s action. She was transferred along with 10 more officials of the Registration Department across the State and the Karaikudi Sub-Registrar Kannan was promoted as District Registrar to replace Ms. Sasikala.

The sources said the order transferring the Ms Sasikala was actually made by the Secretary of the Commercial Taxes and Registration Department on Monday night. Besides the 11 staff, who were trasferred, 29 staff were promoted.

It is also said that the Pudukottai District Registrar had sought transfer earlier as her spouse was employed at Madurai. The sources further said the district Registrar has been asked to stay till her successor takes charge. Ms. Sasikala could not be reached over phone.
