Eravanan in judicial custody

Special Correspondent from Chennai writes:

M.R.P. Eravanan, a close relative of Sasikala, was on Friday remanded in judicial custody by M. Balasubramanian, Judicial Magistrate, Alandur, in an alleged cheating case.

R. Krishnamurthy of Tirupur filed a complaint with Chennai City Police Commissioner J.K. Tripathy last week stating that Eravanan had cheated him of Rs. 1 crore after promising to get him quarrying contracts. When he asked Eravanan to return the money, the latter, along with two men, threatened him. A case was registered by the Central Crime Branch.

A CCB team, which went to Coimbatore on Thursday brought Eravanan to Chennai late on Thursday. On Friday morning, he was brought to the Combined Court Premises in Alandur, where the Magistrate remanded him in judicial custody. He was taken back to the Puzhal jail.

The CCB filed a petition before the Magistrate seeking police custody of Eravanan for 5 days. The petition would be taken up on Monday.
