The day Yuvaraj, the main accused in the Dalit youth V. Gokulraj murder case, released an audio recording on the social media, the CB-CID chief and ADGP Karan Singha made a surprise visit to Namakkal on Saturday to monitor the progress of the probe into the death of Tiruchengode DSP R. Vishnupriya and the murder of the Dalit youth which she was investigating.

Mr. Karan Singha, who arrived at the CB-CID office in Namakkal, spent time discussing with G. Nagajothi, Superintendent of Police, CB-CID and G. Stalin, Additional Superintendent of Police, the progress made in both the cases.

The voice, said be of Yuvaraj, says that he wanted to surrender in the court on learning that police was on the lookout for him in Gokulraj murder case. Since the case was not proceeding in the right direction and as higher police officials were bent on harassing his relatives and supporters, he decided to go underground.

The voice alleges that superior officials prevented the woman DSP, a straight forward officer, from discharging her duty. It also alleges that the CB-CID probe into the death of Vishnupriya was not progressing in the right direction.

The audio contains a mobile phone conversation that reportedly took place between Vishnupriya and Yuvaraj, in which the woman police officer urges Yuvaraj, president of Theeran Chinnamalai Peravai and the prime accused in the murder of Dalit youth V. Gokulraj at Tiruchengode in June, to surrender.

The CB-CIB officials here and the local police are tight-lipped about the authenticity of the audio clip.

Nothing in the

audio, says IG

Inspector General of Police (West Zone) K. Shankar in Coimbatore said there was nothing in the audio relevant to the death of DSP Vishnupriya. “There is no such statement or relevant information [to the death of the DSP] in the audio. Due to its irrelevance there is no need to confirm the authenticity of the recording of the conversation [claimed to be between Yuvaraj and the DSP],” he told The Hindu .
