The State unit of the CPI(M) on Sunday backed Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s demands concerning Tamil Nadu at the recent National Development Council meeting in New Delhi and asked the Centre to fulfil them.
Explaining a resolution adopted in the State council meeting of the party, State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said Ms Jayalalithaa had raised many important issues which required the Centre’s immediate attention and strongly raised the issue of the Centre’s indifference towards Tamil Nadu.
“The CPI(M) wants to stress that it was unacceptable that both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Cabinet ministers had not given a proper reply to Ms Jayalalithaa and ignored her,” Mr Ramakrishnan said.
Besides seeking the Centre’s intervention to get Cauvery water, she had made a strong case for notifying the final award of the Cauvery Tribunal.
She also wanted the Centre to get permission to run the business of broadcasting and or distribution of TV channels.
