The Communist Part of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration in protest against the governments at the Centre and the State at the new bus stand here on Tuesday.

The CPI (M) cadre demonstrated against the price rise, and unemployment and attributed this to the economic policies followed by the Centre.

The protesters demanded a reduction in excise duties for petroleum products, which in turn would bring down the prices of essential commodities. They sought the distribution of all essential commodities through public distribution system, demanded a ban on future trading of food and pulses. The cadre sought an increase in the funding for integrated nutrition centres for children and curtail rise in the costs of drugs and healthcare.

On the employment front, the party cadre demanded the lifting of freeze in recruitments, adherence to reservations of Scheduled Tribes and castes in the filling of vacancies in government jobs and ensure reservations in private recruitments among others.
