CPI (M) assails delay in road works

The CPI (M) on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the fourth zone office of the Corporation at Moolapalayam assailing the local body for not doing enough to re-lay roads dug for laying underground drainage and its failure to supply drinking water even once in two days.

Damaged roads were quite visible in Vaigai Nagar and its extension, areas opposite to NGGO Nagar and Telephone Nagar, Shanthi Nagar Road, LIC Nagar Arch area, Dheeran Chinnamalai street and Muthaliyar Thottam.

Speakers at the dharna wanted the Corporation to pursue without delay the Rs. 420 crore Ooratchikottai drinking water scheme in right earnest to ensure regular supply, and demanded that those seeking drinking water be provided the pipeline connection immediately.

Led by P. Raja, CPI (M) Erode Taluk Committee secretary, the speakers including K. Thangavel, State Executive Member and MLA of Tirupur South, and K. Durairaj, State Committee member, also highlighted inadequacy of other basic amenities and demanded speedy implementation of government schemes.

Subways

Their demands included early construction of subways and bridges, speedy distribution of freebies such as grinders and mixer grinders, regular fumigation of localities against mosquito menace, fixing of street lights and construction of drainages wherever required. The speakers wanted the authorities to deepen and strengthen the canal linking Surampatti Anicut and Moolapalayam.
