The railway police constituted special vigilance committees at villages near railway tracks in the district to scale down train accidents if any and to prevent criminal activities near the track and for better surveillance on Saturday.

Establishing a committee at Balakrishnapuram near here, Railway Police Inspector K. Murugan said the committee comprised VAO, panchayat president, volunteers and representatives of residential associations.

They will create awareness among people of safety measures and to cross unmanned level crossings safe and to monitor tracks. If they found any untoward incident or criminal activity, they would inform the police immediately for quick action.

“ We are making the public responsible for protecting the track. They would monitor the tracks and prevent minor incidents, if any,” he added.
