An anti-Maoist operation under way at Kaatamedu in the Nilgiris.— Special Arrangement

Combing operations have been stepped up in the forests and villages along the Nilgiris-Kerala border following reports of Maoist activities in some parts of Kerala.

Police sources told The Hindu here on Friday that the Special Task Force and local police have launched joint operations.

The move follows information that the presence of Maoists was suspected in the forests of Vellikulambathur, Agazhi, Arukala estate and Patanakkal in Kerala.

A team led by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore Range, Ayush Mani Tiwari, combed the forests and hamlets in Kaatamedu near Cherambadi.
