The Chief Minister’s office has refused to entertain a letter from five MLAs of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) requesting a meeting with her to discuss issues relating to their constituencies, the party said on Tuesday.
“As the officials refused to accept our letter, we have sent our request through registered post to her residence and the Secretariat,” said V.C. Chandrakumar, whip of the party.
The five MLAs who sought an appointment are L. Venkatesan (Tirukovilur), T. Sureshkumar (Chengam), K. Nallathambi (Egmore), K. Dinakaran (Sulur) and P. Sampathkumar (Tiruchengode).
On Monday, a memorandum was submitted to Speaker P. Dhanapal on behalf of DMDK leader Vijayakant and four other MLAs – Ms Santhi Rajamanickam (Senthamangalam), D. Murugesan (Chengalpet), S. Senthilkumar (Tiruverumbur) and R. Arulselvam – seeking an appointment with the Chief Minister.
Mr. Chandrakumar, who submitted the memorandum told The Hindu that though the Speaker accepted their request and agreed to forward it to the Chief Minister’s office, later he called him to inform that it was against norms on the part of the Speaker to arrange meetings with the Chief Minister.
“So we took our request to the Chief Minister’s office and handed over the letter and the officer there agreed to inform the Chief Minister. But, on Tuesday, the same officer refused to accept our letter,” Mr. Chandrakumar said.
Four disgruntled MLAs of the DMDK had met the Chief Minister a few days ago and claimed that they wanted her intervention to implement various development schemes in their constituencies.
