Asserting that the current dispensation under his leadership was functioning effectively, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that he had cleared as many as 1,560 files in the last 70 days.

“No file is pending with the Chief Minister’s office as of now,” he told mediapersons here on Friday, adding that this only showed the speed with which the official machinery was functioning.

Denying that the State was facing power cuts, he said, “There is no power shortage in the State. The repair work on transmission lines is responsible for power disruptions.” He also rejected the allegation that defective infrastructure was to blame.

Adverting to the prevailing drinking water scarcity in the State, Mr. Palaniswami said that his government had initially earmarked ₹500 crore for the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board to ensuring the supply of drinking water through local bodies. An additional ₹100 crore was sanctioned for meeting the drinking water requirements in areas where the scarcity was severe.

To a query on farmers’ suicides owing to crop failure, Mr. Palaniswami contended that the government had already sanctioned adequate compensation to 17 farmers who committed suicide.

“All farmers’ deaths cannot be attributed to crop failure,” he said.
