AP police questions encounter victim’s wife

A Deputy Superintendent of Police from Andhra Pradesh police questioned Muniyammal, widow of Sasikumar, one of the 20 persons killed in Seshachalam forest encounter.

Muniyammal is the one who filed a complaint with the Chandragiri Police against the Red Sanders Anti-smuggling Special Task Force (RSASTF) that conducted the purported encounter on April 7.

According to villagers who accompanied Muniyammal, Tirupathi (east) DSP R. Ravi Shankar Reddy visited Vettagiripalayam village near Padavedu in Tiruvannamalai district on Saturday.

He asked Muniyammal when her husband left home before the encounter and how she came to know about the death.

The officer was accompanied by a Tamil translator.

Three smugglers nabbed

Meanwhile, the Pakala police in Chittoor district nabbed three red sanders smugglers -- Ravi, Appun Raj and Shanmugam (all from Red Hills area in Chennai) in the early hours of Saturday.

The three were taking the rural routes to avoid patrolling parties on the highway towards Bengaluru, after procuring the logs from Seshachalam forests.

A vehicle and red sanders logs worth over Rs. 5 lakh were confiscated.
