The Telecom department has planned to make broadband available to nearly 2.5 lakh villages in the country by 2012, said Gurudas Kamath, Union Minister of State for Information Technology here on Friday.
He told presspersons that all the villages in the country will be covered with broad band before the completion of the term by the present Government at the Centre. He said that 3G services have been introduced by Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd and MTNL.
Mr. Kamath said the re-auction of the 3G is scheduled for February. He hoped the private parties will be ready to compete with the State-run BSNL, in the field, by August-September this year.
By Introducing 3G services, BSNL has ensured reaching the latest technology in mobile communication to people.
Speaking on the wide-range of opportunities opened by 3G services, Mr. Kamat said, film Industry is now reaching the contents of their films through mobile services to people as an advertisement measure.
Department of post is also planning to expand its Instant Money order service.
“It took a day or more time to reach money orders to people. Now we can reach money orders within minutes using mobile technology,” Mr. Kamath said.
In six months time, the instant money order technology which is now available in urban areas will reach rural areas also in the country, he added.
